Tags in MONDAi are labels on contact records. They mark behavior, interest, stage, or status: "Downloaded Lead Magnet", "Purchased Course", "VIP Client". Every tag is also a potential automation trigger — apply a tag and a workflow fires.
What Tags Do
- Segment contacts without creating separate lists
- Trigger automation workflows based on specific contact behavior
- Power smart lists for targeted campaigns
- Provide a readable behavioral history in every contact record
How to Apply Tags
Manually: Open a contact record and add directly. Via form: Configure an Apply Tag action in form settings. Via workflow: Add Apply Tag as an action in any workflow. Via pipeline stage: Configure tag application when a contact moves to a stage.
Tag as Workflow Trigger
Go to Automation → Workflows → Create Workflow
Set trigger to "Tag Applied"
Select the specific tag
Build the workflow actions — this fires for any contact that receives this tag from any source
Tag Naming Convention
Use a category prefix to keep things organized at scale:
Lead:— opt-ins, webinar registrationsBuyer:— product purchasesInterest:— behavioral signalsStatus:— active, inactive, do-not-email
- No naming convention — tags become unusable at scale.
- Applying tags manually at scale — automate via forms and workflows.
- Never removing tags — stale tags create confusing contact histories.
- Using tags instead of pipeline stages for sales tracking — pipeline is the right tool for that.
