How to Import Your Existing Contact List into MONDAi

Migrate your existing contact list into MONDAi by preparing a CSV, mapping fields, and importing in bulk.

Tip

Before You Start

Clean your CSV before importing. Remove duplicate email addresses, fix malformed data, and ensure every row has at least an email address. An unclean import creates CRM problems that take longer to fix than the cleaning would have taken.

Your contact list is one of your most valuable business assets. Importing it correctly means every historical contact is searchable, taggable, and available for campaigns and automations from day one.

Steps

  1. Prepare your CSV

    Export your contact list from your current tool. Open it and confirm: each row has an email address, no duplicate emails, column headers are clear (First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone), and no special characters in headers.

  2. Navigate to Import

    In MONDAi go to Contacts, then click Import Contacts. Select Import from CSV.

  3. Upload your file

    Click Upload and select your CSV. The system will preview the first rows and ask you to map each column to a MONDAi contact field.

  4. Map your fields

    For each CSV column, select the corresponding MONDAi field from the dropdown. Map Email to Email, First Name to First Name, etc. For custom data, map to a custom field you have already created.

  5. Add an import tag

    Add a tag like Import April 2026 or the source platform name. This lets you identify and work with this cohort after the import.

  6. Review and confirm

    Check the contact count matches your CSV. Click Import. For large lists, import processes in the background. A notification confirms completion.

Common mistakes
  • Importing a list without opt-in status. Importing contacts does not grant permission to email them. Only import contacts who have opted in to hear from you.
  • Skipping field mapping. If you do not map the email column to Email, contacts are created without email addresses and are unusable for campaigns.
  • Not adding an import tag. Without a tag, imported contacts merge invisibly into your total list with no way to filter or identify them later.
